Metal Detecting for Beginners Starts Here

I’ll be honest. Metal detecting for beginners can be a hobby that is tried by some, then given up for a variety of reasons.

If you’re serious about Metal detecting, be careful. It can become an experience where you lose sleep at night. Here's why I say that.

1897 Barber Half Dollar Found While Metal Detecting.

You could get so excited about metal detecting, it’s like you found a new toy, bought a new car, or truck. Or you feel like you have a new boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, or husband. Metal detecting is all you think about. To your friends and family, metal detecting is all you talk about.

I’ve known people who talked so much about their new hobby that their friends and family have yelled, “SHUT UP ABOUT IT.”

One poor fellow I know was almost divorced. After he started detect’en his wife told him, “You don’t spend time with me anymore. And you never talk to me. You’re always out there with that new metal detector. You pay more attention to that thing than me.”

The guy saved his marriage. But it wasn’t easy. He had to spend less time with his detector and more time with his wife.

Hopefully, after reading my pages, you’ll eventually join in the hobby and come to love it.

So let me say, thanks for stopping by “Digin Treasure”.

So, Who Am I To Teach Metal Detecting for Beginners?

My name is Frank W. Pandozzi. I’ve been swinging a metal detector for more than fifty years. So, I know a lot about the hobby. That’s why I can be honest and say that when newbies enter the hobby, some of them continue, and some quit for a variety of reasons within the first year. I’ll cover the reasons here on my website.

So, if you’re really interested in learning about metal detecting, with the intention of beginning. Then you’ve come to the right place. But be prepared, because I’ll tell you the hard facts about metal detecting with no BS.

You see, there’s too much bad information out there on the web. Much more nonsense than when I started metal detecting years ago. It’s one of the reasons why some newbies give up early. They’ve read or seen stuff that just wasn’t true when they began the hobby. The Internet is the main culprit of all the BS. Many newbies were bamboozled by people who profess to be experts. So, they quit detect’en.

But you won’t get the BS from me. I’ve been around too long. I can see through lies and the scams. And you’ll know about them in my pages throughout my website.

So, you’re probably asking yourself. “Okay, Mr. so-called expert. What’s your background?”

Well, Not to Brag About my Metal Detecting Knowledge, But

I’ve written half a dozen books about metal detecting and treasure hunting. The books cover many topics. I even had a TV series called “Exploring History’s Treasures.”

It was the first reality TV series about metal detecting. Heck, I was on TV metal detecting even before YouTube videos about metal detecting began to pop up. I like to toot my horn and say I was the first one to start the TV and YouTube metal detecting and treasure hunting craze. The funny thing about that is this.

Years ago, when I pitched my TV series to the Braintrust’s at the TV networks, they told me my idea sucked. They said it would never fly. But I proved them wrong. Within two years, my show was on prime time on cable TV stations in every State. And look at how many TV series we have now showing metal detecting and treasure hunting.

I Was Once a Beginner

In 1970, I too was a newbie to metal detecting. But before I started in the hobby, I looked for information about metal detectors and the best way to begin. But there was no Internet. That’s where many go today for ideas. Instead, I read the treasure hunting magazines that existed.

I purchased an inexpensive metal detector and began searching in easy areas to detect. While learning how to use my metal detector, I dug up lots of junk and a few old coins. But I never became discouraged.

Throughout the years, my experience and knowledge grew to where I am positioned now in the hobby.

Not everyone joins in metal detecting to do what I have done. Most are happy just digging old coins and relics.

Some in the hobby search for lost and buried treasures.

Whatever your reason is for possibly entering the hobby. You can have the same kind of experience.

But enough about me. I just wanted you to know why I have the experience of giving you the advice you’re seeking about metal detecting for beginners.
